[12:09] <@jacky> wb
[12:09] <@jacky> :)
[12:09] <@Calum> thanks
[12:09] <@jacky> how's things?
[12:09] <@Calum> had a very interesting day at work heh, other than that everything's par for the course
[12:09] <@jacky> what happened there?
[12:09] <@jacky> inquiring minds want to know...
[12:09] <@jacky> heh
[12:10] <@Calum> some new trinkets to play with, and a visit from Gigabyte
[12:10] <@jacky> a company rep?
[12:10] <@jacky> what'd he want?
[12:10] <@Calum> a group of them
[12:10] <@Calum> they were just looking at what products we used, wanted to show us some new things, all that kind of stuff
[12:10] <@Calum> they visit quite often, they seem to like us heh
[12:10] <@jacky> did the boss give you time off to chat with them though?
[12:11] <@Calum> funny thing is...no one in tech has a Gigabyte board, which disapointed them....
[12:11] <@Calum> our manager is on holiday heh
[12:11] <@jacky> heheeh
[12:11] <@Calum> but regardless, yes we do get time to chat, because it's part of work, learning etc
[12:11] <@jacky> what's everybody use? Asus?
[12:11] <@Calum> building good relationships
[12:11] <@Calum> yep, everyone is on Asus
[12:11] <@BC_Programming> My motherboard is a Gigabyte
[12:11] <@BC_Programming> :P
[12:11] <@jacky> what are someof the reasons that they use Asus over Gigabyte though?
[12:12] <@jacky> BC_Programming: See? that's why you can't get a job there.
[12:12] <@BC_Programming> it's only 4 letters, rather then 8
[12:12] <@jacky> ah..
[12:12] <@jacky> scientific
[12:12] <@BC_Programming> thant's like, half the length right there
[12:12] <@jacky> I get it
[12:12] <@Calum> better features, overclockability, reliability, better price point...not all together, but at leats one of those reasons
[12:12] <@BC_Programming> excuses
[12:12] <@BC_Programming> it's all in the letters
[12:12] <@Calum> I was happy with my old Gigabyte board
[12:12] <@BC_Programming> until the bearded lady shaves, as they say in france
[12:13] <@jacky> I'd think features would be the same... .. thinking...
[12:13] <@jacky> like what?
[12:13] <@Calum> things like layout, or onboard devices
[12:13] <@jacky> I was thinking of devices, ports, etc... when I said that I expected them to be the same
[12:13] <@jacky> that's stuff taht the average user can easily spot
[12:14] <@BC_Programming> let's not forget that every one comes with a little toy
[12:14] <@BC_Programming> lol
[12:14] <@jacky> and would be a tippng point, in purchase
[12:14] <@jacky> he
[12:14] <@BC_Programming> they were shopping for a brand, and the giant spikey baloon caught their eye, "Includes FREE toy!"
[12:14] <@Calum> heh
[12:15] <@BC_Programming> balloon*
[12:16] <@BC_Programming> well, I just made a borg cube in 3ds max in like an hour
[12:16] <@BC_Programming> let's see how it turns out in the animation :)
[12:16] <@BC_Programming> should be done rendering in.... 5 hours
[12:16] <@Calum> heh
[12:16] <@Calum> you need to upgrade ;)
[12:17] <@BC_Programming> that's on my laptop
[12:17] <@BC_Programming> and it is 1000 frames
[12:17] <@BC_Programming> at 800x600, too
[12:35] <@jacky>
[12:35] <@jacky> see you all later on
[12:35] * jacky (the_kink@mib-6EC199AC.slsbmd.east.verizon.net) has left #glitchpc
[12:36] <@Calum> just saw a thread which reminded me...anyone interested in Fermi/GTX 4XX, or AMD Thuban/Phenom X6?
[12:36] <@Calum> we got to play with them at work today
[12:36] <camerongray> hey Calum
[12:36] <@Calum> hey cameron
[12:37] <camerongray> I would like a Phenom x6 but money went away
[12:37] <@Calum> heh
[12:37] <@Calum> they're not great
[12:37] * hello2u (WillieTheF@mib-AF92578B.res.east.verizon.net) has joined #glitchpc
[12:37] <camerongray> ahh
[12:37] <camerongray> And I don't think this mobo could cope, It's a really cheap one
[12:37] <@Calum> it is literally a Phenom II, with 2 extra cores...no better performance really, it doesn't beat an i7 at stock even when the X6 is overclocked to ****
[12:38] <camerongray> lol, I suppose, very little is developed for quad core, let alone 6
[12:38] <@Calum> it ran nice and cool though even with a rubbish cooler, although the temperature readout could have been lying as this is a very pre-release chip
[12:38] <@Calum> yeah, that's the thing, extra cores on their own aren't too helpful right now unless you do heavily multitask, if it brought a good speed boost clock for clock it would be good
[12:39] <@Calum> or if it had more cache, or something like that
[12:39] <@Calum> it's a bit disappointing to be honest
[12:39] <camerongray> Yeh, I have the Athlon II x4, not much cache
[12:39] <camerongray> 512kb L2 Per Core, No L3
[12:39] <@Calum> yeah, that's the only downside of the Athlon II vs Phenom II, cache
[12:40] <camerongray> Yeh, But Hey, It was cheap
[12:40] <@Calum> doesn't always hurt performance though, the Athlon II's are unbeatable for the money
[12:40] <camerongray> yeh
[12:41] <camerongray> I wasn't even planning on it, Got money at christmas, thought hmm, what can I buy, Boxing Day: Buying new CPU
[12:41] <@Calum> heh
[12:44] <camerongray> g2g - bbl probably

[19:36] <@BC_Programming> I dunno
[19:36] <@BC_Programming> I like just sat down at my PC when mIRC beeped from your msg

[21:48] <@BC_Programming> Craig you still here?
[22:11] <Craig_Remote> Yeah Whats up?
[22:11] <@BC_Programming> ahh
[22:11] <@BC_Programming> I'm rendering something pretty cool
[22:11] <Craig_Remote> Sorry business meeting
[22:11] <Craig_Remote> Heh whats that?
[22:11] <@BC_Programming> with 3ds max... that's all
[22:11] <@BC_Programming> a borg cube
[22:11] <Craig_Remote> Cool, send me a screenie
[22:11] <Craig_Remote> Hahahah Awesome
[22:11] <@BC_Programming> ok, I'm rendering it as an AVI video atm
[22:12] <@BC_Programming> I'll see if it will let me take a pic
[22:17] <@BC_Programming> it's half-way through the animation so I had to go with where the cam was... it was in a closeup
[22:17] <@BC_Programming> http://bc-programming.com/images/borgclose.png
[22:38] <Craig_Remote> Looks awesome BC
[22:38] <@BC_Programming> thx, 3ds max won't restore now, I minimized it
[22:38] <@BC_Programming> now I just have to hope it's still working , the video should look kickass
[22:39] <Craig_Remote> It should work,
[22:39] <Craig_Remote> dont worry
[22:39] <Craig_Remote> This is what I am working on http://remoteserver.is-by.us:8080/Garage_Sale/paintings-for-sale/miracle-of-life-christian-riese/
[22:39] <@BC_Programming> the AVI is still getting larger... the only annoyance is I won't know how far along it is, heh
[22:40] <@BC_Programming> so is it the image you made, or are you making the image gallery via Plone?
[22:40] <Craig_Remote> Plone. :)
[22:41] <@BC_Programming> ahh thought so, wasn't sure
[22:41] <Craig_Remote> Did you click on the pic?
[22:41] <@BC_Programming> wow that is cool
[22:41] <Craig_Remote> :)
[22:42] <@BC_Programming> did I show you the new IRC logs page I made? http://bc-programming.com/index.php?page=irc
[22:42] <@BC_Programming> I Was bored, and wanted to do something with PHP, and then I noticed how bland the standard FTP folder view of the irc logs looked
[22:43] <Craig_Remote> Nice did you do that from ChanBotII ?
[22:44] <@BC_Programming> actually, not really- see, jacky has it set up so the logs are uploaded to an FTP folder on my site
[22:44] <Craig_Remote> Ok,
[22:44] <Craig_Remote> And
[22:44] <Craig_Remote> ?
[22:44] <@BC_Programming> all I did, was write some PHP to enumerate those files, parse out the dates, and pretty up the display
[22:44] <@BC_Programming> and sort them by month- that was probably the hardest part... until I realized I could just sort the filenames, and they would automatically be sorted by date, heh
[22:45] <Craig_Remote> Hahahah Nice,
[22:45] <Craig_Remote> Good work looks grat
[22:45] <Craig_Remote> great
[22:45] <@BC_Programming> thanks, and then it was just a matter of adding two or three lines of code to make it display on the main page
[22:47] <Craig_Remote> Awesome
[22:47] <Craig_Remote> Simpler the better
[22:47] <@BC_Programming> yeah, I intentionally designed the main page so that it selects the "content" page- with the sidebar and title area the same
[22:47] <@BC_Programming> works rather well
[22:48] <Craig_Remote> Thats cool,
[22:48] <Craig_Remote> Some day you should send me the HTML and css stuff so I can play with it in Plone :P
[22:48] <@BC_Programming> heh
[22:49] <@BC_Programming> the html is almost entirely written with PHP... and the php selectively includes() the other PHP files as it sees fit.
[22:49] <Craig_Remote> Wish I could Afford this one http://remoteserver.is-by.us:8080/Garage_Sale/paintings-for-sale/children-of-the-world-greg-olsen/
[22:49] <Craig_Remote> Nice that is what Plone does, only with Perl
[22:50] <@BC_Programming> I can use perl with my server too... at least, I'm supposed to
[22:50] <@BC_Programming> had a Internal Sever error when I tried, must be doing something wrong
[22:50] <Craig_Remote> :S
[22:53] <@BC_Programming> Oh! just remembered... I figured out, how to fix the palette issues I was having with some of my older games
[22:53] <@BC_Programming> turns out, the palette issues are caused by explorer... so I made a batch file that taskkill'd explorer, runs the game, and then starts explorer again
[22:53] <@BC_Programming> problem solved :D
[22:54] <Craig_Remote> Hahhaah Thats awesome
[22:54] <Craig_Remote> Good solution too
[22:54] <Craig_Remote> Makes windows run faster
[22:54] <@BC_Programming> umm
[22:54] <@BC_Programming> what?
[22:54] <@BC_Programming> I mean, the taskbar explorer
[22:54] <Craig_Remote> When you kill explorer
[22:54] <Craig_Remote> yeah
[22:54] <@BC_Programming> I literally have to kill all of them
[22:55] <@BC_Programming> of course then my desktop is all screwy when I return
[22:55] <Craig_Remote> not really, depends on how it is restarted
[22:55] <@BC_Programming> I mean, screwy in that the applications are weird sizes
[22:56] <@BC_Programming> visual basic's window is sometimes just a little title bar... and yet it thinks it's maximized
[22:57] <@BC_Programming> that type of stuff
[22:57] <Craig_Remote> Yeah comes from the desktop resizer so that the game can play at its rez
[22:58] <@BC_Programming> no. It doesn't happen if I don't kill explorer.
[22:58] <@BC_Programming> the icons are smashed to the left, but that's fine, I really should delete most of them anyway
[22:58] <@BC_Programming> I've found I start almost everything with the search bar, heh
[23:00] <Craig_Remote> nice
[23:00] <@BC_Programming> yeah, and when I use XP I find myself pressing the windows key and trying to type into the search bar, lol
[23:01] <@BC_Programming> and then I suddenly feel all disoriented when it doesn't work, heh
[23:01] <Craig_Remote> hahahahah
